Check the temperature in Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico averages a comfortable 85 degrees throughout the year, so dress requirements are understandably casual.
During the day shorts, and bathing suits (light clothing in general) are acceptable. An old pair of tennis shoes or plastic sandals is good to have for walking on the reef.
In the evenings, many hotels ask the men to wear long pants, shirts, and not be barefooted. Casual shoes, shorts, jeans or slacks are quite acceptable for the men and a light sundress, slacks or shorts for the ladies.
Puerto Rico's legal drinking age is eighteen (18) years old.
Prices in Puerto Rico are comparable to prices in the United States. Puerto Rico is not as cheap as some people think; it’s also not a place where you can negotiate the price of things, like you can in other Caribbean nations and Mexico.
Your state’s verified medical marijuana card will allow you to purchase edibles, oils (cartridges), and accessories. In order to buy flower from a dispensary in Puerto Rico, you must have a local PR medical marijuana license or acquire a tourist card, which can be good for up to 30 days. Yes, but don’t worry. Rain in Puerto Rico is normally quick in and quick out. It is unusual for it to rain for a long period. Puerto Rico also has a 28,000 acre tropical rainforest on the island, so yes: rain is common. It can be raining in one place and completely dry and sunny a few miles away. Also, Rio Grande, which is the City of El Yunque, literally translates to ‘big river,’ so don’t be surprised if you almost always see rain forecasted there! Puerto Rico Forecast
Yes, a ticketed reservation is currently required to pass the gate. It is only $2 per car, but you need one to get to the marked trails, aside from Angelito’s Trail.
In order to acquire a ticket, visitEl Yunque Reservations and select the date and time you’d like.
If your anticipated date is not available, you will need to check back 24 hours before you’d like to go. To secure a ticket, you must be logged in at least a minute or two prior to 8am or 11am (the day before you’d like to go), add a ticket (one per vehicle) to your car and checkout as quickly as possible.
Tickets are limited and sell out in minutes, every day. If you’re unable to secure a reservation, you can always go to the beautiful, educational Visitor’s Center, El Portal, which has paved trails. Kids are free; $8 per adult.
Hire a good tour guide and they will know the tricks to get you in.
If you can’t get tickets to the forest , there are alternative places to go:

You don't want to leave anything to chance in Puerto Rico and end up without a car! Prices fluctuate like crazy and if you wait until the last minute, you might not get a car at all. Puerto Rico is an island and therefore, has limited resources. By the way, you DO need a car in Puerto Rico unless you plan to stay in the San Juan area the entire time.
The “best” company for you depends on so many factors. Your budget where you’re picking up & dropping off, what size vehicle you need, your preferences, and insurance are some factors to consider. There are major name brand chains in and around SJU & BQN, as well as many small, local companies. There is nothing wrong with local companies, but most do require your declaration page and/or a deposit equivalent to your deductible, or that your cars be newer than a certain year to rent their vehicles using your personal car insurance. If you elect to add on options, such as insurance, GPS, roadside assistance and/or tolls or the link, you will be charged for them. Your rental quote does not include these things unless it specifically states it does. Do not buy rental car insurance from third party companies like Priceline, Kayak, or Hotwire. Although they’re generally ok to make you booking with, buy the insurance directly from the rental car agency if you’re not using your own or your mastercard’s protections.
